Role Description This part-time, on-site Licensed Cosmetologist role is based in West Des Moines, IA at Shear Madness – Haircuts for Kids. The cosmetologist will provide haircuts, basic styling, and occasional specialty styles for children and families, ensuring each guest feels welcome, comfortable, and excited about their visit. Day-to-day tasks include consulting with caregivers and clients, performing services in accordance with state cosmetology regulations, maintaining a clean and safe workstation, and following salon health and sanitation standards. The role also involves engaging with children of varying ages and temperaments, using patience and creativity to provide a calm, fun, and positive experience. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with retail sales in the boutique, supporting spa-style services for kids, and contributing to a friendly, team-oriented salon environment.

Qualifications

Valid cosmetology license in the state of Iowa and strong skills in cutting, basic styling, and age-appropriate children’s hairstyles.Ability to work comfortably with children of all ages, including those who may be anxious or energetic, using patience, empathy, and clear communication.Commitment to cleanliness and safety, including adherence to sanitation standards, proper tool care, and compliance with all state cosmetology regulations.Customer service and retail skills, including professional interaction with caregivers, upselling salon and boutique products, and handling basic point-of-sale transactions.Teamwork and reliability, including consistent punctuality, flexibility to work weekends and peak hours, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced, family-focused environment.Prior experience in a salon or children-focused service environment is beneficial; familiarity with kid-centered entertainment or themed environments is a plus.High school diploma or equivalent preferred, along with ongoing interest in learning new
