About Our New Artist Program
Our New Artist Program is designed to bridge the gap between cosmetology school and a successful professional salon career. We provide a structured path that combines hands-on salon experience, mentorship, technical education, and business development.
The program begins with a 9-week paid assisting phase, where you'll work alongside experienced stylists, learn our salon operations and guest experience standards, and become familiar with the Aveda environment.
After successfully completing the assisting phase, you'll transition onto the salon floor as a New Artist and begin taking your own guests while continuing to attend our New Artist education classes every Monday.
Throughout the program, you'll develop your technical skills, grow your clientele, and build the foundation for a sustainable career behind the chair.
Compensation & Career Progression
New Artists begin with an hourly wage plus tips, providing a consistent foundation as they transition into taking clients and developing their books.
As you progress through the program, build your clientele, and establish consistent service demand, you'll transition to a commission-based compensation structure plus tips. This transition is generally planned for approximately three-quarters of the way through the New Artist Program, with the goal of completing the program as a commission-based stylist.
Education & Training
Our curriculum includes:
Aveda professional hair color, including permanent, demi-permanent, and lightening services
Haircutting, styling, and finishing techniques
Guest consultations and personalized service recommendations
Aveda 10 Points of Difference and service rituals
Guest retention, prebooking, and relationship building
Retail education and home-care recommendations
Business development, time management, and productivity
Responsibilities
Successfully complete the 9-week assisting phase.
Transition onto the salon floor and begin building your clientele.
Attend weekly Monday New Artist education classes.
Develop technical skills through hands-on experience, education, and mentorship.
Deliver an elevated Aveda guest experience.
Build lasting guest relationships and recommend appropriate home care.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
Demonstrate accountability, coachability, and a commitment to continued growth.
Qualifications
Current Utah cosmetology license, or eligibility to obtain one before performing services.
Recent cosmetology graduates and emerging stylists are encouraged to apply.
Passion for the beauty industry and a desire to build a long-term career.
Strong communication and guest service skills.
Dependable, professional, motivated, and receptive to feedback.
A team-oriented mindset and willingness to learn.
Previous Aveda experience is not required.
